Yingying's barbecue pork bun

Here comes a new challenger to the barbecue bun craze.

Yingying, a small dimsum place in Binondo has come up with this unique Barbecue Bun to challenge the ones by HongKong based TimHowan, their version although not flaky has slices of century egg inside giving you a salty taste to complement the sweet sauce of the bbq pork. This is super yum.

Yingying is at Dasmarinas cor Quentin Paredes St in Binondo

The best Filipino flavors in Bistro Remedios

Bistro Remedios has been around for, like forever. Together with other LJC group restaurants, the place used to a haunt for Bohemes, literati, officeworkers and the like. Located near Manila's Adriatico circle, this has been the go-to place for Filipino comfort food for decades. Today, other LJC restos have sprouted in malls but nothing compares to the charm of dining in Malate, where it all began.

If you're a Malate virgin, there's nothing like their famous Crispy Pata (Deep fried pork leg) that can ease a growling tummy. Other must tries are the Baby Squid in Oil and Chili, the appetizer of champions or their most copied dish- the Crispy Tadyang (crispy Beef ribs). For me, I'm happy with a bowl of rice and their Gising-gising( sauteed string beans in coconut milk and chili).
Crispy Tadyang (Php 515)

Gambas (shrimps in chili oil)

Baby Squid

Binukadkad na Plapla (butterflied Tilapia)

Then I'll cap it off with Claude's Dream (coconut strips and pandan jelly with coconut ice cream) The place may be a bit pricey compared to other Filipino restos but hey, you're dining at the best.

Gino's brick oven Pizza

If you're sick and tired of having the usual pizza and pasta come on over to Gino's. They have reinventing the wheel on Italian food, and in here everything in the menu is a winner.

The pizzas are thin and crispy with an uneven crust, they're baked fresh and come with the simplest, unique and freshest ingredients. The pastas too have a strong following and every dish is a must try. Honestly the place was too good we came in two successive days because we can't get enough of their food.

Gino's Sausage Pizza

Aglio Olio

Salted Egg pasta

Bacon and Gouda Cheese Pizza

This Spicy Honey is one of their secrets to awesomeness, you'll enjoy it more when you pour some to your pizza.

Crack pie is like a sweetened cassava cake but the crust is to die for.

Parking is hard esp on a Friday night.
Don't forget to order Burrata and the Bomb

The secret Japanese resto BF residents don't want you to know

There's a place at BF Homes, Paranaque that has caught my eye. Along El Grande St is an old house beside an art gallery that's packed with cars at night.

Last Saturday, these curious cats went there early to find out. The place had a very small almost inconspicuous sign called Tatsunoko Restaurant.

In front of the resto is a small signage in Kanji. When we went in, it was indeed an old house converted to a resto. The house looks worn and there's not much to see inside- almost roadside eatery levels but it's airconditioned.

And the menus were surprisingly cheap. Php 200 pesos for an order of prawn tempura? Php 200+ for sashimi? Php 200+ for sukiyaki? We were awestruck by the cheap prices, but did it taste good?

You bet.
Tempura Php 200 batter a bit thick but they use real prawn, good value for money

Fried rice Php 90 tasty and yummy

Grilled salmon Php 150 a bit overly done, but at that price who's complaining?

Tuna and salmon sashimi Php 230

California Maki, bigger than usual

Sukiyaki that came with the cooking pot.
Generous portions of beef, tasty too

The place is small can be easily crowded during dinnertime. Because we were seated by the door, other customers were already crowded and were standing so close to us that's hard not to finish up and leave. Quite rude but I didn't want to ruin my night. Oh they only have 3 servers, so I suggest you order as much because the place is super packed.

Our total bill came up only Php 1100+ that's including all we ordered above . (Tempura and rice was 2 orders) Good value for money, don't mind the ambiance. Secret's out.

Getting there: This is going to BF Lopez, turn right after SM Hypermarket
BF Lopez, After lopez village, take El Gramde St, there's an art gallery cafe beside it. This is before reaching BF gate

Bonchon Kodog best hotdog ever?

I've tried lots of hotdogs and one of the best- tasting is the BonChon Kodog. It comes in two flavors the Bacon Kimchi and cheesy potato. The hogdog is fried and slightly glazed then the sauce is topped in. This is one awesome doggone delicious hotdog. Nice one, Bonchon.

Curry Bee, serving more than just curry

If you're seeking for a laidback casual Japanese place at Bluebay Walk, I recommend Curry Bee, it's a small place near the pie shop and the Apple store.  An international franchise from HK (Causeway Bay),  the place aims to please with a selection of lunch specials, Japanese  curry and ramen selections.

Come here during weekday lunch and enjoy lunch sets as low as P 188 with iced tea.  I loved the Karaage set,  which is 4 pieces of fried chicken chunks fried to order.  It comes with rice,  miso soup and iced tea.  A great deal for less than P 200. I also enjoyed their Pan fried Veggies which came in a sizzling plate and topped with Bonito flakes.
They also have affordable dinner sets
like this Dinner Special for two with Fried Katsu,  Potato balls,  and two pieces Fried Prawn for Php 580,  a steal with cabbage,  rice, iced tea and miso soup.  This also comes with their signature curry sauce.

Summary
Enjoyed the experience,  food tasted great and we freshly made.  Stay away from the Ramen.  Order the lunch and dinner sets.
Service was great. My go-to lunch place. e

Sometimes the best meal is the simplest one

Lunch is an enjoyable Fish Fillet and Century Egg with Rice in Soup at Tuantuan. This is a variation of Chiuchow region's rice porridge, instead of making it thick like congee, whole cooked rice is added in giving you the consistency of rice swimming in hot soup. I ate like this when I was a child, so this brings a lot of memories. Paired with their trademark Pork Buns since Fish Skin is out of stock.

Beni's Falafel now open at Mall of Asia

I was surprised when I passed by Mall of Asia and found the new branch of Beni's Falafel now open.

If you haven't tried a falafel sandwich, it's about time you had one. Its pita bread with "meatballs", these Israeli delights aren't really made of meat its ground chickpeas that are rolled into a ball then fried. Really good! Please visit them at the Ground Floor SM Moa South Wing near the SM Store entrance.
