Do you speak Hainanese?

A trip to Malaysia would not be complete without sampling their Hainanese chicken rice.
Would it be better than Singapore's? We went to My Mom's Chicken at Jalan Bintang Walk to find out.

My Mom's Chicken is owned by Malaysian actress Linda Onn, a place where people can try out her mom's specialties like the Hainanese Chicken Rice and the Mee Rebus. Her mom on the logo reminds me of Mama Sita here in Manila.

So let's start with her resto, with bright orange interiors its quite impossible to miss this place. You can tell by yummy aroma of their chickens hanging (Dude, what away to die) at the counter stand. The place is not air conditioned but its cozy enough and clean.

Choose from either roasted or steamed chicken. Add the flavorful Hainanese/sambal rice, chili and spring onions and you've got yourself a steal of a meal for only 6 ringgit. The cuts are generous although I prefer steamed over roasted. (My mom ordered steamed I had roasted.) I loved their chicken. The sambal is delicious and the servings were very generous.

While my sister ordered their coup-de-grace -Mee Reebus, the specialty of the house.
Mee reeebus is the local lambshank stew. Cooked in herbs and spices, and very cholesterol rich, you're given a straw to suck out the marrow. Yum! Hello Cholesterol. This is like the one featured in Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. It comes in a pinkish reddish sauce, very rich, delicious, a heartbreaker indeed! You're given bread to dip in the sauce while you partake of the very tender lambshank cooked slowly. This thing cost just 8 ringgit or 108 pesos good enough for 2, and my sister wanted it for herself! So it took me and my other sister to help her finish this dish, and after the meal we were very full. Great pre-requisite for another whole day of shopping!

Ooh yeah I was rushed to the hospital after eating this. Not!

My verdict:
Hainanese Chicken Rice I've had better with Mr. Choi's and Cosmos Panciteria in Manila
Mee Reebus indeed to die for, please share it! Just sipping the marrow off the straw is already gory experience I won't do in another 5 years, lest I've had a bigger death wish for a richer cholesterol-laden diet. In other words, very good!
